How to export all accounts with territory assignments

Postby patfaram » Tue Jul 06, 2010 7:52 pm

I have been tasked with defining two sales territories in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX. I am evaluating your software for purchase. I have linked my account data file which includes 2,820 accounts. I have drawn my territories. The Territory Data Summary report is balanced the way I want it. Now I need to export the accounts with their respective territory assignments. However, when I run the other available reports, they come out blank. The headings for the accounts are there, but there is no data below the headings. What am I doing wrong?

In brief;
Geographic map units and Accounts are handled as separate entities by Territory Mapper.
You may have your map units assigned to territories, but your accounts may be unassigned.
See if your report lists your accounts under the grouping "unassigned."

In details;
If you have the geographic map units (ZIP Codes, for example) assigned to territories, but the accounts remain unassigned, then the report will show no accounts in the territories. Instead, the accounts will all be listed under the group "unassigned."
Check the report to see if the accounts are listed under the group "unassigned."

The unassigned accounts will display, by default, as a small gray diamond at each location.
The inside color of the diamond is related to the territory that particular account is assigned to.
See the attached image. The accounts in Maine are assigned to the same territory as the state of Maine. Notice they are all the same color. The accounts in the other states are gray, meaning they are unassigned.

QUESTION: Are the accounts in your document assigned to territories, or are they gray?

If your accounts are gray and need to be assigned to the territory of the underlying map unit, use "Auto Align" to assign them.
"Auto Align" is a utility found under the Alignment menu.
When prompted for "Auto Align Method," select "Align all point map objects to their parent polygon." Below that, under "Account Handling," select "Align Accounts Only." Click OK.
"Auto Align" will now assign each account to the territory associated with the map unit in which the account resides.
You will know this has been successful when the accounts are filled with appropriate colors, meaning they are assigned to territories.

The Report "Account Assignments" should now list each territory and the Accounts inside those territories.

Under "Preferences," found in the Edit menu, a setting exists called "Align accounts with their parent polygons." If you check this setting, then accounts will be assigned to territories when the parent polygon beneath them are assigned to territories.
